SOAP Server Notes
The Win32/native SOAP server is currently on the Deprecated list and is
classified as "Other Consideration: Need alternative." If you want a
document/literal server, you should build your SOAP server using Delphi
for .NET (RAD Studio), which supports the SOAP specifications that are
 supported by the .NET framework.
Although I can understand that (a bit) for the SOAP server side, I would really want some extended Win32 SOAP support for clients, specifically for SOAP v1.2, MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) and in the end also interoperability for WCF servers.

I've opened a QC feature request report, and invite everyone who also cares about Win32 SOAP (client) support to vote for this report.

Delphi 2009 SA (Subscription) Notifications

The Delphi 2009 SA (Subscription) Notifications have been sent out.

Delphi 2009 Architect trial edition

The 14-day trial edition of Delphi 2009 and C++Buidler 2009 Architect is now available for download from http://cc.codegear.com/free/delphi .

October 6-7 2008: Software Developer Conference, The Netherlands

Attend the Software Developer Conference in The Netherlands on 6 and 7 October (get a 50 Euro discount if you specify Reference Code "eBob42") and make your choice from the best Delphi speakers and sessions we've selected for you (as well as sessions on .NET, DotNetNuke, Database, etc.).

Delphi 2009 is shipping

I've just e-mailed the first ESD licenses of Delphi 2009 to my customers in the BeNeLux.

Blaise Pascal Magazine issue #3

Blaise Pascal Magazine issue #3 has just been published at www.blaisepascal.eu.

Delphi 2009 and C++Builder 2009 announced

CodeGear just announced Delphi 2009 and C++Builder 2009, and the pre-ordering has started for these two tools (as well as a bundle with both of them for a discounted price) - see http://www.bobswart.nl/CodeGear for the BeNeLux prices.

Delphi for Win32 SOAP Exceptions

Delphi, XML, SOAP & Click on the tray icon to allow the RAD Studio - InstallAware Wizard to pop-up again.

And then click Install.

First of all: if you don't know if update #3 is applied: check the splash screen.

If you don't upgrade to CodeGear RAD Studio 2007, then this update is not to be missed (otherwise, CodeGear RAD Studio will contain the update, so no need to run it).

And in case you've just returned from a well deserved holiday: the imminent announcement of Delphi Highlander (before the SDC, I would expect), will no doubt have its impact on some of the sessions, including the Delphi Product Address (by Nick Hodges), Delphi Chalk & Talk (Nick Hodges plus myself), but also some sessions covering topics like Generics, DBX4, ADO.NET 2.0, ASP.NET 2.0, and Windows Communication Foundation (WPF), to name but a few.

Delphi Win32 / .NET Component Development on Lulu.com

I've just published another paperback on Lulu.com, namely Delphi Win32 / .NET Component Development about custom component development using Delphi (most information is relevant to all editions of Delphi, although it's recommended to use Delphi 2005 or higher with this manual).

Delphi 2006 and ADO.NET 1.1 paperbacks on Lulu

I've just published two Delphi 2006 specific paperbacks on Lulu: Delphi 2006 Development Essentials and a .NET 1.1 specific Delphi 2006 ADO.NET 1.1 Database Development manual.

C++Builder 2007 Database Development manual on Lulu

Upcoming articles for The Delphi Magazine include one on .NET Compact Framework development, and next month an article on SOAP and Security as well as a Delphi 2006 New Features together with Brian Long.
For the C++Builder Developer's Journal I'll be writing the last part in my database access series, which will be followed by new articles about C++Builder 2006 new features.
Also, for Bitwise Magazine I still need to finish the last article about my ECO II Weblog, this time the ECO Web Service returning the RSS feed to this weblog.

Windows CE 5.0 Device Emulator on Windows 2003

As I mentioned earlier (in my upcoming article for The Delphi Magazine for example), the system requirements for the Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Device Emulator list Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows XP SP1 (or later).
Unfortunately, that's a complete list, since it will simply refuse to install on Windows 2003 (with or without SP1).
Which is a bummer, since I use Windows 2003 Standard Edition on my laptop (if only because SharePoint 2003 requires Windows 2003).

I will add new features like RSS feeds, once I've implemented the ECO-2 Web Service to return the RSS.
Note that the current deployment web server is my backup internet machine, so it may not be available on a 24x7 basis (the same machine is used to host my garden webcam application at http://www.drbob42.com/webcam and Skype answering machine - both written in Delphi as well - so it gets a bit crowded up here ;-)
